Children's Dentistry | Indianapolis DentistYes!

We are happy to welcome your little ones to our office! Starting them off with positive dental experiences is the best way to ensure that your child stays proactive with their oral health as they get older.

How We Can Help Your Child

Dr. Uhl and our team have the caring, gentle touch necessary to help your child learn that dental visits can be fun. We know that, as a parent, you are probably a little nervous about your child’s first visit with us.

There’s a lot for a young child to take in, and our goal is not to overwhelm them with any significant treatments until we’re sure they’re comfortable with us. We offer “happy visits,” where we just show them how much fun a trip to the dentist can be.

You should make the appointment for your child’s first visit as soon as their baby teeth start to emerge. Keeping your child’s baby teeth healthy is critical for the proper development of their permanent teeth.

Kids' Dentist in Indianapolis

If you would like to drop by with your child for a visit, please give our Indianapolis dental office a call. We’ll be happy to schedule an appointment just so you can both take a look around and meet us. You can be confident that your child’s oral health is in good hands with us!

Sealants | Children's Dentistry IndianapolisNot sure what sealants are? Sealants are a great way to prevent cavities as your child's smile develops over time. Dental sealants are placed in the grooves of a child's tooth to help prevent tooth decay. Sealants prevent food from getting trapped in the grooves, thus preventing cavities from forming.

How Sealants Work

The process of placing sealants is pretty simple -- it's quick, painless and does not require any drilling or numbing. We highly recommend sealants be placed on all six-year and twelve-year molars.

Sealants for Kids in Indianapolis

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Indianapolis dental office for more information. We work with family members of all ages, and look forward to helping your child build great oral health for a lifetime.

Children's Dentistry | Indianapolis We recommend children come for their first dental visit once their first tooth appears. We encourage visits this early in order for children to get accustomed to our office and our staff. This appointment also allows us to talk with the child's parents or caretakers about the importance of good oral hygiene habits (including proper brushing technique and dietary suggestions).

Our Team Loves to Help

If your child does not cooperate like you would hope, don't worry! It often takes a couple of trips for children to feel comfortable in a dental office, and we totally understand that new things can sometimes be overwhelming.

We encourage you to call our office today to schedule a visit and we'll be happy to show your family around. We look forward to welcoming your family to our Indianapolis dental office!

Wisdom Tooth Extraction indianapolis in Having your wisdom teeth (also known as third molars) removed is a decision that should be made after consulting with Dr. Uhl or an oral surgeon.  Often times, there is not enough room in the mouth for the wisdom teeth to erupt into place.  This condition is called "impaction".  Impacted wisdom teeth could form cysts around them, potentially damaging neighboring teeth or the surrounding bone.

Why Wisdom Teeth Often Need Extracting

Wisdom teeth that partially erupt into the mouth could cause complications due to a greater chance of bacteria being trapped underneath the gums.  This could lead to pain, swelling, or difficulty opening and closing the mouth.

Wisdom teeth that are fully erupted and exposed may not have to be removed.  However, they are typically hard to reach with a toothbrush and floss, which puts them at a high risk for tooth decay or gum disease.

Gentle Extractions in Indianapolis

Every patient is unique.  After a thorough evaluation of your mouth and review of proper x-rays, you and Dr. Uhl can come up with the best course of treatment. Call our office today and a team member will gladly help you arrange a consultation with Dr. Uhl.

ClearCorrect Invisible Braces

We are pleased to offer ClearCorrect invisible braces for minor to moderate tooth alignment problems. This is a discreet orthodontic treatment that has helped many of our Indianapolis patients achieve a beautiful straight smile.Invisible Braces Indianapolis

There are lots of options available today for treating alignment issues.

Why We Love ClearCorrect

  • Smooth plastic makes the aligners comfortable and easy to wear
  • The aligners are completely removable for brushing, flossing, and eating
  • ClearCorrect aligners are thin, clear, and virtually invisible
  • More affordable orthodontic treatment compared to other clear braces

Aside from the aesthetic concern, it’s important to correct tooth misalignment because it can lead to premature wearing of dental enamel, gum disease, and even serious general health problems. We want your smile to look great, but it’s equally important for your teeth to be healthy so that they last a long time; ClearCorrect helps us achieve both.

Since ClearCorrect treatment is an investment in time and money, we want you to be completely satisfied with the outcome. Indianapolis dentist, Dr. Uhl, will work with you to develop a treatment plan that suits your needs and provides the results you’re looking for.

Complete and Partial Dentures

Missing Tooth | Indianapolis DentistWe offer several options for replacing missing teeth, depending on your specific needs. Whatever your situation, at German Church Road Family Dentistry we have the solution that will fit your needs perfectly.

Our Tooth Replacement Options

  • Dental implants are the premier tooth replacement option because they do a lot more than just fill the empty space. They are designed to act as a stand-alone tooth replacement and actually replace the missing root. This makes dental implants an attractive, durable, healthy choice.
  • Fixed bridges are another type of dental restoration that solves the aesthetic problem of a missing tooth while restoring function and allowing you to eat and speak properly.
  • Dentures and partials are removable replacement teeth and can be used if several or all of your teeth are missing. Today’s dentures are nothing like the older versions – they are far more comfortable and can be made to look completely natural.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the type of tooth replacement that is as close in look, feel, and function to a natural tooth as possible. That is because their structure replicates a real tooth, right down to the roots!

There are other options available like bridges or partial dentures, but they only sit on top of your gums. While they’re both an excellent solution for restoring appearance and some function, dentures lack the artificial root structure that makes dental implants the standard of care for tooth replacement.

Made of biocompatible titanium, the implant post is placed surgically in your gum and allowed to heal throughout several months. During this time, the implant fuses fully with surrounding bone and tissue. After healing, Dr. Uhl attaches a porcelain crown to it that restores your appearance and allows you to eat, speak, and smile comfortably and with confidence.

We would like to help you enjoy the renewed confidence of a whole and healthy smile, and a dental implant may be the perfect solution for you. If you are struggling with tooth loss and would like to learn more about dental implants at our Indianapolis office, please call to arrange a commitment-free dental implant consultation with Dr. Uhl.

Night Guards, Sports Guards, TMJ Appliances

Mouth Protections in IndianapolisIt’s easy to underestimate the protection an athletic mouthguard provides until you take an elbow to the jaw during a pick-up basketball game! Estimates indicate that nearly 40 percent of all dental injuries are sports-related, with 5 million teeth avulsed (knocked out) during these activities. Unfortunately, compliance is a problem, and even in sports like football where wearing protective gear is mandated, only about two-thirds of athletes wear their mouth guard.

Providing Protection for Your Smile

As far as which provides the most protection, an over-the-counter mouthguard is better than no nightguard at all. And while both are made of plastic, generic mouthguards are made of a thinner material that’s suitable for a wide range of people. They are fitted by boiling them until they’re soft and pliable and then biting down on them, hence the term “boil and bite” mouthguards.

Custom athletic mouthguards at our Indianapolis dental office are made of strong, heavy material and are fitted by taking impressions of your teeth. Not only are they more durable, but they are designed to fit comfortably, which eliminates a lot of the compliance problems with generic mouthguards.

Custom Athletic Mouthguards in Indianapolis

At German Church Road Dentistry, we offer all the services you need to maintain excellent oral health, including custom athletic mouthguards. Please call us so we can provide the full protection your smile needs.

Dentist in Indianapolis | Smiling PatientMost of us grind our teeth from time to time, especially in moments of stress or frustration. However, chronic teeth grinding, also known as bruxing, is a problem because it places stress on your teeth that can lead to a host of dental problems. Most bruxing occurs while you’re sleeping, so you may not be aware of doing it, but Dr. Uhl will see the evidence in the form of unusual dental damage.

Common symptoms of bruxism are:

  • Increased tooth pain and sensitivity
  • Chipped, or fractured teeth
  • Neck, facial, or jaw pain
  • Worn dental enamel

At German Church Road Dentistry, we recommend nightguards in Indianapolis for our patients who grind their teeth. A nightguard is a custom oral device that fits over your upper teeth like a mouth guard. Its goal is to reduce the contact that your upper and lower jaw have when you clench your jaw during sleep, thereby minimizing the damage done to your teeth.

TMJ Treatment in Cumberland

If you are noticing any of the above symptoms and think it might be related to teeth grinding or clenching, please call our office to arrange an appointment with Dr. Uhl to discuss your concerns.

If you have jaw pain, earaches, or headaches that seem to come out of nowhere, you might want to investigate whether or not you have issues with your temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The purpose of this joint is to enable you to open and close your mouth, and when this “hinge” doesn’t work correctly, it can result in painful conditions that can impact your quality of life. Chronic teeth-grinders often have issues with the TMJ because of the forceful clenching.

Signs of TMJ disorders include:

  • Pain or tenderness in the joint that enables you to open and close your mouth
  • Pain that seems like an earache but is related to the jaw
  • Facial pain
  • Difficulty opening and closing the mouth, or locking of the joint
  • Difficulty chewing or painful chewing

If you are experiencing any of the above issues, your first step should be to contact our Indianapolis, IN dental clinic to ask about TMJ disorders. Dr. Dane Uhl will conduct a thorough examination to check for signs of TMJ. He can offer some possible solutions to help eliminate your pain so you can get on with your life.

Remember that dental pain is never normal. Call German Church Road Family Dentistry to find out more about TMJ disorders, and we can help to relieve your pain.

TMJ Treatment in CumberlandTMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, the jaw joint that allows your mouth to open and close and move from side to side. You can feel the TMJ working if you place your fingers slightly forward and just below your ears while opening and closing your mouth.

This joint does a tremendous amount of work and is one of the most complex in the human body. And, just like any other joint, the TMJ can become sore from overuse, especially when you grind and clench your teeth during sleep.

TMJ Treatment with Dr. Uhl

Dr. Dane Uhl offers TMJ treatment at our Indianapolis dental office that involves wearing a custom device – either a mouth guard or oral appliance – to limit the contact your upper and lower teeth have when you grind your teeth. These devices also act as a buffer to absorb the force of grinding and minimize the damage to your teeth.

TMJ Treatment in Indianapolis

If you are suffering from chronic headaches or jaw and neck pain, please call our office to arrange an appointment. Dr. Uhl will evaluate your needs by talking to you about your symptoms and taking x-rays as needed to identify the source of the grinding to minimize its effects and protect your oral health.

Porcelain Veneers

Most patients who have healthy teeth and gums but who want to cover up cosmetic issues are good candidates for veneers. Start by making an appointment for a consultation about veneers at our Indianapolis dental office German Church Road Family Dentistry. Dr. Dane Uhl will go over your medical and dental history and conduct an examination to determine if veneers are the cosmetic dentistry option to improve your smile.

Veneers are ultra-thin, translucent covers that go over the fronts of the teeth that show when you smile. You can get one veneer if you need to cover up one damaged tooth, or you can get a full set to change your entire smile. In general, veneers can be used for:

  • Covering up teeth that are crooked or misaligned
  • Lengthening the look of teeth that are too short
  • Camouflaging teeth that are gapped, cracked, or otherwise aesthetically unappealing

Veneers can change the look of your smile in just a couple of visits to the dentist, so it is a popular cosmetic dentistry treatment. Many of your favorite Hollywood celebrities, whose perfect smiles you admire, are likely the recipients of veneers. We were not all born with a perfect smile, but most of us can have one through the artistry and science of cosmetic dentistry!
